How to Replace Your Income and Quit Your Job
I remember the exact moment I realized I couldn’t do this forever.
It was a Tuesday. Nothing special about it - just another day spent in the same office chair, staring at the same computer screen, doing the same mind-numbing work I had done a hundred times before.
I looked around the office, and it hit me - this was my life. The same emails, the same routine, the same four walls. Every. Single. Day.
Was this really it?
Was I going to spend the next 40 years of my life stuck in the same cycle - working for someone else, living for the weekends, asking for permission to take time off, just to get a paycheck that barely covered my bills?
That thought scared me more than anything.
I knew I wanted more, but I didn’t know how to make it happen. I wasn’t some tech genius. I didn’t have a trust fund. I didn’t even have a solid plan.
But I did have the will to figure it out.
And that’s exactly what I did.
I want to walk you through exactly how I replaced my income and quit my job - because if you’re feeling stuck, I want you to know that you don’t have to stay there.
STEP ONE: STOP THINKING LIKE AN EMPLOYEE
If you want to leave your job, the first shift has to happen in your mindset.
For most of your life, you’ve probably been conditioned to think like an employee - where your paycheck is given to you in exchange for a set number of hours worked. Someone else determines your value, your schedule, and even when you’re “allowed” to take time off.
The first step to quitting your job isn’t just about making money - it’s about learning how to make money without relying on a job.
For me, this realization was everything. I wasn’t going to just “get hired” by someone else in a new role. I had to figure out how to create income for myself.
That shift in thinking changed everything.
STEP TWO: IDENTIFY YOUR SKILLS (EVEN IF YOU THINK YOU HAVE NONE)
One of the biggest lies people believe is that they “don’t have any skills” to make money outside of a job.
I used to think this too. I didn’t have a fancy degree in finance. I wasn’t a coding expert. I wasn’t an influencer with thousands of followers (now I am, but not back then!).
But here’s what I realized - people pay for solutions, not for fancy credentials.
So instead of asking, What job am I qualified for? I started asking, What can I help people with?
I had always been decent at writing, so I leaned into that. I started applying for blog writing gigs on UpWork. At first, I wasn’t making much - $50 here, $100 there - but I was learning how to get paid without a boss handing me a paycheck.
If you’re not sure what skill to offer, ask yourself:
✔ What do people already ask me for help with?
✔ What tasks do I find easy that others find difficult?
✔ What could I learn quickly that people will pay for?
This could be organizing emails, designing social media posts, creating spreadsheets, managing schedules, proofreading documents - anything.
STEP THREE: FIND CLIENTS (WITHOUT RELYING ON UPWORK FOREVER)
When I first started, I got my clients through UpWork - which is great for beginners because you don’t have to find clients on your own.
But I knew if I wanted to replace my full-time income, I couldn’t stay there forever.
Freelance platforms take a huge cut of your earnings, and you’re constantly competing against others for the same jobs.
So I made it a priority to find independent clients.
Here’s exactly how I did it:
1️⃣ I leveraged Facebook groups – I joined groups where small business owners hung out (like entrepreneur and coaching groups) and started answering questions. I wasn’t selling - I was just being helpful. People started reaching out, and I landed my first few direct clients that way.
2️⃣ I optimized my Socials – I updated my IG to make it clear what I did and who I helped. I wrote a clear value statement, shared my services, and created content that provided VALUE. People started DMing me.
3️⃣ I asked for referrals – Once I had a few clients, I started asking if they knew anyone else who needed my services. Word of mouth quickly became one of my biggest sources of work.
This is how I started building a real business instead of just bouncing from gig to gig.
STEP FOUR: SCALE TO CONSISTENT INCOME
A lot of people can make some money online - but replacing your full-time income? That takes strategy.
For me, the key was shifting from one-off projects to long-term clients.
Instead of charging per hour or per small project, I started offering monthly service packages.
For example:
Instead of “$30 per hour for admin tasks,” I offered a “Monthly Admin Support Package – $1,200 per month for up to 20 hours.”
Instead of “$100 per blog post,” I offered a “Monthly Blog Writing Plan – $750 for four articles per month.”
This made my income predictable and allowed me to take on fewer clients at higher rates.
Within two years, I had built my business to six figures a year - more than double my old salary, working from anywhere I wanted.
STEP FIVE: CREATE MULTIPLE STREAMS OF INCOME
Once I had a solid foundation, I realized I could do even more.
People started asking me how I quit my job, how I found clients, and how they could do it too. That’s when I saw an opportunity to teach others.
I launched my first online course, showing people how to start their own online business.
That course hit six figures in five months, and multiple six figures in the first year.
It turned into a full-blown coaching business - and another level of freedom.
This is the real key to long-term success: having multiple streams of income.
QUITTING YOUR JOB ISN’T JUST A DREAM - IT’S A STRATEGY
If I had waited until I “felt ready” to quit, I’d still be sitting in that office today.
But replacing your income doesn’t happen overnight. It happens step by step:
✅ Start while you’re still working
✅ Find a skill that people will pay for
✅ Get clients on your own terms
✅ Build monthly income you can rely on
✅ Scale beyond just freelancing
The life you want isn’t just possible - it’s waiting for you.
